2019 IWSA Scholarship Recipients
Steven Blancas
Steven is currently attending Central Catholic High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Hispanic National Honor Society, Spanish Club, and Academic Team. He has also been a peer mentor and tutor with the National Honor Society. He has earned Central Catholic’s High Honor Roll and will graduate Magna Cum Laude. He has volunteered with the San Antonio Food Bank, San Antonio Pets Alive, St Gregory’s Catholic Church and St. John Berchman’s Catholic Church. Steven will attend St. Mary’s University where is plans to pursue a degree in Accounting and Data Analytics.
Jeremy Perez
Jeremy is currently attending Central Catholic High School. He is a member of the Cross Country Team, Track Team and is the Basketball Team Manager. He is on the Central Catholic High School President’s List, he has earned the Dux Esto Award for Geometry & Accounting and he has earned Central Catholic’s High Honor Roll and will graduate Summa Cum Laude. Jeremy has served as a Guardian Angel with Central Catholic High School where he has worked with Habitat for Humanity, San Antonio Food Bank, Haven for Hope and Project Mend. Jeremy will attend Texas A&M University, College Station where he will pursue a degree in Accounting.
Brooke Burkholder
Brooke is currently attending Jourdanton High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society, Jourdanton High School Class Representative, Head Cheerleader, and a member of Jourdanton High School FFA, where she has earned several awards advancing to State. She has volunteered with Pleasanton First United Methodist Church, Bahamas First United Methodist Church, the San Antonio Livestock Show, Pleasanton Young Farmers, Atascosa County Livestock Barn and Mary’s Angels. Brooke will attend May’s Business School at Texas A&M University, College Station and plans to pursue a degree in Business Management.
Diane Guzman
Diane is currently attending Southwest High School where she is the leader of the rhythm section of Varsity Mariachi. She has performed for the Mayor, the Spurs and the Riverwalk Festival. She has won 1st Division District UIL and 2nd Division State UIL. She was selected to compete in the BPA Accounting Competition. She competed against several business schools and placed 2nd. She has also worked many volunteer hours in the school store called “The Block” as lead designer of school merchandise. Diane plans to attended Northwest Vista College and University of Texas San Antonio pursuing a Master’s Degree in Accounting.
Cassidy Lenz
Cassidy is currently attending Navarro High School where she is a member of the National Technical Honors Society, Business Professionals of America, Gay-Straight Alliance, UIL Spelling & Vocabulary, News Writing; After School Productions and Visual Arts Scholastic Event. She has a passion for Books and Art and currently serves as Secretary of the Art Club. She has been chosen as Student of the Month and Art 2 Student of the Year at Navarro High School. Cassidy plans to attend the University of Texas San Antonio pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science.
Alexandra Organ
Alexandra (Alexia) is currently attending Winston Churchill High School where she is a member of the varsity Tennis Team where she serves as Capitan. She is also a member of the National Honor Society where she serves as an officer, the Spanish Honor Society, Chargers Athletic Leadership Advisory, Chargers for Christ, Unity Club, and Greek Orthodox Youth of America where she also s serves as an officer. She has received the AP Scholar award and the Bronze Medal for the President’s Volunteer Service Award. She is ranked 5th out of 696 and will graduate Summa Cum Laude. Alexia will attend the Mays School of Business at Texas A&M University, College Station. She will pursue a degree in Accounting.
Scarlett Smith
Scarlett is currently attending Devine High School where she is a member of the Tennis Team, the Tech & Robotics Club, the UIL Academic Team and the Debate Team, where she serves as Co-Captain. She has been awarded National Hispanic Scholar, AP Scholar, Devine Lions Club Student of the Month and 1st Place District & 2nd Place Regional of the 2018 American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest. Scarlett is a member of the National Honor Society and National Forensic League. She has attended the Envision National Youth Leadership Forum in California and traveled with the Explorica Educational Tour in London, Paris, Florence & Rome. Scarlett will graduate #1 in her class of 147. She plans to attend the University of Texas, Austin and pursue a degree in Business.
Alexa Villalpando
Alexa is currently attending James Madison High School where she serves as Treasurer of PALS, Vice President of Interact, Treasurer of Madison High School National Honor Society and Editor-in-Chief of the Madison High School Yearbook. She is ranked 4th in a class of 732. She was awarded the National Award Winning Feature Story Writer at the Journalism Education Association/NSPA National Journalism Conference. She won the Rotary Youth Leadership Award and placed 4th in Feature Writing Journalism UIL. Alexa plans to attend Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and pursue a Business degree.
